About the community

CofiBlocks is a pioneering collaborative business, focused on connecting small coffee farmers directly with coffee lovers, roasters, designers, mills, and other members of the traditional coffee community in Costa Rica. All its members share decision-making and the financial benefits of coffee sales, while promoting coffee production in more traditional regions using the best of the Regenerative Finance (ReFi) movement through tools such as NFTs and social currencies on blockchain.

On the slopes of the Poás Volcano, a coffee with deep flavors is produced by local people who have been involved in coffee production for generations. This is the region we have chosen for the first season of CofiBlocks 2022-2023.

Objectives

- Make small coffee producers more visible so that they are recognized by coffee consumers.
- Help small producers to have better profits with the sale of coffee they produce.
- Help coffee lovers understand the benefits of participating in a collaborative business (Cofiblocks).
- Make Cofiblocks members have access to good quality craft coffee at a fair price.
- Make Cofiblocks members understand the benefits of NFTs and their usefulness within the Cambiatus ecosystem where Cofiblocks belongs.
- Make coffee farmers, roasters, packaging companies, coffee tasters, coffee consumers learn about blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, smart contracts, NFTs.
- Help small coffee producers to have a more organic production and thus help improve the soil, biodiversity and carbon sequestration on their farms.
- Have small producers sell their products directly to Cofiblocks members with the support of blockchain technology.
- Make Cofiblocks members understand about collaborative business and decentralized governance.

How does it work

1. Coffee lovers receive the aromatic drink at home through their monthly subscription;
2. Those involved in the production of coffee receive a fair payment in advance, which allows them to plan their activities and know their demand in advance thanks to the subscription.
3. All members participating in the pilot community of CofiBlocks in Cambiatus can claim their COFI, a social currency on the blockchain that guarantees them a share in the benefits of the collaborative business.
4. During its first pilot year CofiBlocks will create a collection of NFTs with original illustrations and distributed through the labels of the coffee sold.

The following actions are rewarded with COFI:

- Join the community;
- Invite new members;
- Buy coffee from CofiBlocks;
- Apply organic production practices, improving the soil, biodiversity and carbon capture in coffee farms;
- Participate in workshops and learning activities on blockchain, smart contracts, NFTs, etc.;
- Participate in the CofiBlocks Launch event supported by ReFiSpring (September 2022)
